We are a friendly group of people who share a common interest in, as Willie Rushton once put it ‘the thing outside’. The ‘thing’ you spend your entire life trying to keep under control and nurture, more commonly known as a Garden!
We do our best to protect it from attack by various pests, diseases and indeed wildlife (rabbits, badgers and even mice stealing seeds) while at the same time providing habitats for beneficial wildlife. Slugs, snails and vine weevil are probably our worst enemies! Bees and hoverflies among our best friends and we try to support them.
This group meets monthly to visit gardens, including those of members. We share our knowledge and experiences. We occasionally visit local gardens in the NGS Scheme – and other local gardens and nurseries so we can learn more from the experts. We arrange plant swaps and in the past have undertaken seed trials.
During the winter months we become quite inventive as the weather isn’t great for gardeners. We’ve arranged a talk by an expert on Orchids, and in December we met to create Christmas decorations wreaths/garlands using foliage from our own gardens. We also visited Fachongle Ganol Preselis to see the national collection of Hollies growing there. Prior to spring we try to arrange a seed swapping session.
Whether you are a novice, intermediate or expert gardener we’d love you to join us.
We meet every 2nd Wednesday each month at 10:30 am. Usually followed by a cuppa and chat with the hosts or at a local hostelry.
